SPACE ASPECT IN THE DESIGN CONCEPT OF POST-WAR UKRAINIAN RECONSTRUCTION AND PRESERVATION OF CULTURAL SELF- IDENTITY

Ukraine’s post-war recovery entails not only technical and economic challenges but also the urgent task of reviving and safeguarding national cultural identity. Architecture and design occupy a central position in this process, serving as mediators between cultural heritage, civic initiatives, and technological innovation. This article explores how satellite systems (navigation, communication, remote sensing) and digital technologies (digital twins, 3D scanning, photogrammetry, muon tomography) can be integrated into architectural design practices to support reconstruction while maintaining cultural distinctiveness. Purpose. The aim of the article is to define a design concept for post-war reconstruction based on ethno-cultural values, the capabilities of satellite and digital technologies, and the integration of technological innovations into architectural design practices. Methodology. The research is based on comparative analysis, interdisciplinary synthesis and study of Ukrainian and international experience. Empirical sources were used: project documentation, competition applications, dossiers of individual projects (“Housing for Ukraine”, RE: Housing, “Yakusha Design”, “Backup Ukraine”, etc.), as well as materials from public initiatives and cultural heritage experts. Results. It was shown that satellite systems (navigation, communication, remote sensing) and digital technologies (digital twins, 3D scanning, photogrammetry, muon tomography) can function not only as documentation tools, but also as mediators of social processes: heritage management, local community engagement, and reconstruction policy formation. Two aspects are highlighted: 1) “Technologies of Seeing and Knowing” – the role of visualization and mapping systems in evidence-based reconstruction; 2) “Design, Vernacular, and Community Participation” – digitization of vernacular architecture, use of local materials, and experiences of displaced or returned residents. Scientific novelty. The results obtained demonstrate the possibilities of integrating technological innovations into the socio-cultural framework of reconstruction, which allows combining technocratic solutions with ethno-cultural principles and ensuring spatial justice. Practical relevance. The proposed design concept can become the basis for practical reconstruction projects focused on the benefit of the community, the preservation of cultural identity and the development of social justice.
