Abstract

The article is devoted to the comprehensive study and theoretical substantiation of an innovative pedagogical model for teaching specialized drawing to students of the “Graphic Design” specialty in the context of the rapid digital transformation of the art education environment. The research addresses the critical problem of the “digital gap”, where students’ proficiency in software tools often lacks a foundation in structural understanding and spatial logic. Purpose. The primary aim of the study is to scientifically substantiate and describe the effectiveness of the methodological triad “Analysis – Interpretation – Transformation” as a cognitive foundation for professional design training. The research seeks to define a seamless workflow that integrates traditional academic drawing techniques with modern digital pipelines, ensuring the development of competitive competencies. Methodology. The study is based on a multidisciplinary approach that synthesizes the principles of the Odessa architectural school – where drawing is viewed as “construction on a plane” – with the concepts of visual thinking by R. Arnheim and the propaedeutic methods of J. Itten. The research employs methods of structural deconstruction of forms, polygonal analysis of volumes, and digital convergence of hand-drawn sketches within graphic software environments. The pedagogical experiment was conducted within the Faculty of Design at the Odessa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Results. The research establishes that the implementation of the methodological triad ensures a phased development of professional skills. It was found that focusing on the “skeleton” of the form and its architectonic structure (the interaction of load-bearing and carried parts) significantly improves students’ ability to work with 3D modeling and complex vector graphics. The study details a six-stage practical course: from the constructive analysis of a skull to the creation of associative involving scanning and subsequent processing in raster or vector software–preserves the “artistic soul” of the work while meeting industry standards for efficiency. The results show that students trained under this methodology demonstrate a 35% higher efficiency in generating original visual concepts compared to those following purely digital or purely academic paths. Scientific novelty. For the first time, a methodology for teaching special drawing specifically for graphic designers is articulated through the prism of architectural logic, where drawing is redefined as an intellectual system of cognitive modeling. The study introduces a refined model of “architectonic modeling” as a bridge between classical academic traditions and the requirements of the post-industrial design industry, including integration with AI-assisted workflows. Practical relevance. The proposed methodological framework can be directly integrated into the curricula of higher education institutions specializing in arts and design. It provides educators with a clear set of criteria for evaluating both technical proficiency and creative adaptability. Furthermore, the findings are highly relevant for the development of new courses in concept art, character design, and architectural visualization, ensuring that future specialists are equipped to navigate the complexities of modern visual communication.
