TABLE AS AN ELEMENT OF INTERIOR: CLASSIFICATION, FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE AND CONSTRUCTIVE ASPECTS

The article analyzes the main types of structures, manufacturing materials, stylistic trends and functional capabilities, in particular transformation mechanisms. Based on the analysis, an author’s design of a coffee table in the style of modern minimalism with elements of the Scandinavian style was developed. The results obtained can be used in the design and manufacture of household furniture. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to analyze the structural, material, and stylistic features of coffee tables and develop a design solution for a coffee table taking into account the requirements of durability, functionality, and modern interior design trends. Methodology. Information-research and visual-analytical approaches were applied in combination with comparative analysis methods regarding the use of coffee tables in the interior. Results. The unique properties of a coffee table in interior design are examined. It is established that functionality, reliability of transformation mechanisms, durability of service, price, safety, materials, aesthetics and style are key factors taken into account when designing tables. A classification of the folding mechanisms of coffee tables has been carried out: “book”, lift-and-slide, transformer with hidden inserts, modular transformer. Scientific novelty. The importance of a comprehensive combination of constructive, design and ergonomic approaches to the design of coffee tables is substantiated. The possibilities of using a universal coffee table design in interiors of different styles are clarified. The functional purpose of tables in interior design and the features of their designs have been determined. Practical relevance. The results of the study can be useful both for the development of new design structures, as well as in the educational process when training design and furniture production specialists
