The article examines the influence of moisture on the tribodynamic parameters of brake friction assemblies. It establishes the thermal stabilization state of the brake drum rim—a factor that, alongside the permissible temperature for friction lining materials, must be considered in thermal calculations for friction pairs. A device is proposed for the forced removal of moisture from the friction surfaces of drum-shoe brakes, serving to limit the aforementioned thermal phenomena. Theoretical and experimental studies of the influence of moisture on the tribodynamic parameters of brake friction pairs when it is locally removed from the intercontact medium have allowed us to establish and propose: when operating drum-pad brake friction pairs in the range of surface temperatures below the permissible one, the decisive role is played by the processes of thermal conductivity of its metal elements with insufficient efficiency of convective and radiation heat exchange; when operating at surface temperatures above the permissible limit, local endothermic reactions occur, causing degradation of the polymer lining surface layers; while this intensifies convective and radiative heat transfer, it reduces the efficiency of thermal conduction; and a device utilizing the electro-osmotic effect to remove moisture from the polished surface of the metal element, thereby preventing hydrogen-induced wear.
