The article theoretically substantiates and methodically defines the role of familiarizing primary school pupils with decorative and applied arts as an essential prerequisite for the development of visual activity. The essence of decorative and applied arts, psychological and pedagogical foundations of their use, and key methodological principles are outlined. The importance of a competence-based approach in training future teachers for effective implementation in primary education is emphasized.
