Intensive man-made loads and the consequences of military operations lead to the accumulation of heavy metals, in particular lead and copper, in soils. Their toxicity negatively affects agroecosystems and poses a threat to food chains. A promising direction for cleaning is phytoremediation - a nature-based method based on the ability of plants to absorb, transform, fix or stabilize toxic elements.
