The paper examines the ecological state of the Southern Bug River basin in the period 2025–2026. The main factors causing the degradation of the aquatic ecosystem are considered, in particular, significant technogenic transformation, extreme biogenic pollution in the upper reaches, as well as the loss of the ability to self-purify due to excessive regulation of the riverbed. The risks for the drinking water supply of strategic cities in the region are identified and the need for large-scale reconstruction of treatment facilities is emphasized, in accordance with the State River Basin Management Plan for 2025–2030.
