Abstract

The environmental condition of the Donetsk region, especially the quality of atmospheric air, is in a critical state. Before the start of hostilities, the main burden on the environment fell on large industrial enterprises. Particular risks were caused by metallurgical, mining and power generation industries, which are characterized by a high level of environmental pollution. The situation has worsened significantly since April 2014, when the consequences of military operations became noticeable for the ecology of the region. Starting with the full-scale Russian aggression on February 24, 2022, the state of the atmosphere has significantly deteriorated due to continuous explosions of ammunition and emissions of harmful substances from the movement of military equipment. Chemical reactions during explosions lead to the formation of excessive amounts of toxic substances that significantly pollute the air.
