Abstract

Prospects of development of air travel in Ukraine on the current stage are disclosed in the article: joining the “Open Skies” agreement, that is liberalization or enhancement of monopolizing processes. It is concluded that due to the complicated political and economic situation the processes of monopolization in air travel industry of Ukraine reinforced. Herfindahl-Hirshman index is calculated and it demonstrates an increased rate for Ukrainian market of air travel and proves existence of unnatural monopoly in the air transportation industry. Implementation of the “Open Skies” agreement in Ukraine can become an effective instrument to oppose different monopolies in the industry of air travel, such as: monopoly for air travel, monopoly for aviation fuel supply, monopoly for air navigation services rendering, rendering of various types of handling services, etc. Continuation and enhancement of monopolizing processes in the sphere of air travel will lead to negative effects, in particular, for the efficient technical-economic and technological development of the air transportation industry, and for the resourceful advancement of Ukrainian economy on the whole.
