An analysis of the technical capabilities of using the system of basic PL-functions for the presentation of information in computer systems and network media is presented. A comparative analysis with Schauder's system of basis functions was carried out. It is shown that with the same parameters of the signal distribution, we obtain equivalent results when calculating the coefficients. When using these basis functions, to compress information, it is necessary to take into account that Schauder functions are local on the interval [0,T], and PL functions are continuous. On the basis of previous experimental studies, recommendations are provided for the use of PL-functions for digital processing, for example, of audio information.
