The article analyzes recent publications, which pointed to the rapid creation of data by various types of
media. It was noted that a fifth of the data generated is critical and needs to be protected. To reduce the amount of data, it is proposed to use coding methods without building a coding table. That is why, the methods of arithmetic and
adaptive arithmetic coding are considered in detail from the standpoint of the possibility of using them in cryptographic
information protection systems for critical infrastructure systems. As a result of the study, for guaranteed information protection, it is proposed to use the technology of sequential cryptographic information protection (after coding) using adaptive arithmetic coding. For systems with streaming data processing (selective information protection technology), it is proposed to use arithmetic coding. By key information in the arithmetic coding algorithm we mean the weight of each element, the rest of the information does not need additional protection.
