FORM-BUILDING CONCEPTUALIZATION OF CONTEMPORARY FASHION INTERPRETATIONS OF UKRAINIAN TRADITIONAL DRESS

Abstract

The purpose of the article is the analytical and conceptual substantiation of the form-generation of contemporary clothing collections that transmit Ukrainian national tradition, reflecting the urgent needs of society. Methodology. To achieve the stated purpose, historical-cultural, comparative, chronological, and classification methods were used, as well as methods of system analysis and observation. The research is based on a comprehensive art-historical approach that synthesizes the scientific and theoretical experience of studying the stated problem, its innovative manifestations, and current methods of evaluation. Results. Contemporary clothing design in Ukraine demonstrates hybridity and experimental approaches in form-generating concepts. At the same time, the conceptualization of form creation in the Ukrainian fashion industry, developing in three directions, significantly enhances figurative and associative techniques, which are positively perceived by both domestic and global target audiences. As a result, a significant trend is emerging – the transformation of fashion brands into a cultural and artistic phenomenon with a certain philosophy, which today defines a strong and promising trajectory for the fashion industry, including internationally. Successful examples of implementing creative ideas enriched with ethno-identifying narratives are presented in modern collections of well-known Ukrainian designers and demonstrate the inexhaustible form-generating potential embedded in the unique and authentic national clothing of Ukrainians. Scientific novelty. The scientific novelty of the research lies in systematic conclusions drawn based on a comprehensive analysis of contemporary fashion sources regarding the timeless “genetic dependence” of domestic fashion on ancient forms and images. It has been confirmed through specific examples that, in addition to figurative and associative solutions, the features of Ukrainian folk costume are clearly traced in construction, pattern cutting, decoration, and in working with form in contemporary clothing collections. The conceptual sensitivity of Ukrainian fashion to key events in the country’s life has also been identified, which is manifested through the corresponding visual and communicative effects of fashion projects. Practical relevance. The practical significance implies the further formulation of relevant prospective trends in fashion design in Ukraine, which will help guide practitioners and specify art-historical analysis in this field. In addition, the obtained results can be used in the educational process of students enrolled in design-related educational programs.
